Social Conditioning – How Brainwashed Can You Possibly Get?

May 14, 2008 · Filed Under Social Conditioning, Success Theory

Since the moment you were born, you started learning new things. Things that are helpful, things that are not helpful – you can’t judge them, because you don’t know jack about life. So it becomes easy to just accept whatever was put in your subconscious as an undisputed fact.

Is social conditioning helpful to a certain extent? Yes, of course. It has taught you not to eat things you find on the floor, not to fart in public places (arguably a good thing), and a whole lot more. Without some of this knowledge, you’d be dead by now. But what is even more certain, is that without another part of this knowledge, you’d be one of the best people in our society.

Why are you so inclined to trust what social conditioning has taught you? To begin with, you don’t know very much about the world you live in. Do you know how your car can take you from your home to your workplace? Or do you know how this computer of yours is working? It’s no wonder that you start thinking “This society is very smart. I should listen to what those people say.” Of course, this is just an illusion.

However, many people are aware that this is not the right way to think, but they still do it. Why? Because they seek the approval of the society. They need to be accepted as a part of the society. Why they do it, and is it worth it at all… that is a topic for another time. The point is that this is how things are. And who says that you need the approval of the society. Oh yes, the society itself. :)

Brainwashing is a natural process nowadays. Believe it or not, it is not something that is being done with some purpose by some old men staring at a ring of LCD screens in a dark room. There isn’t a master plan to make people less confident and independent. If you become different than what the society expects you to be, then you’ll be getting different results, than what the society will be getting. But this is also a story, which is not for today. :)
