You Should NOT Read This Post!

Just try not to read this post. This a test of your will. Do NOT read this post!

Congratulations! You are just like 99% of the human population… at least until now!*

Why is it so hard to NOT do something? Maybe you know, maybe you don’t, but there is always more to everything than you think there is.

To begin with, your mind doesn’t know the meaning of the word “no”.  Whatever you think – this is it! It’s like saying “Whatever you do, do not think of a pink elephant!”. This is simply how your brain is wired. However, there is another reason, which you are most probably not aware of.

Imagine you have a box of chocolates in the kitchen. What you’ll probably do is to think “I should NOT eat them!”. Of course, you want to eat them, and maybe you’ll stop only after half the chocolates are gone. Then you’ll still feel good from the chocolate and you’ll be saying “I shouldn’t have done that.”

So basically you associate the word “should NOT” with something pleasant. Yeah, it is not good for you, but it feels nice. When you become aware of this belief, you’ll find it much easier to resist the temptation. :)

And even better – the word “should” will have a greater influence over you. But be careful with that one. It is helpful when there are things you just know you should do, but you are lazy or whatever – and this is the good way to use the word “should”. Other people will try to use it too, in order to make you act according to what they believe. Then what you should really do is to change your focus immediately – but that’s a topic for another time. :)

*If you were able to resist the temptation, but at the same time you were curious enough to read it anyway makes you fall in the 1%. :P
